GED tutoring in South Africa,
your route to what's next.
One-on-one GED tutoring for South African students across all four GED subjects — plus SAT support for the university pathway. Whether you're homeschooling, returning to study, or looking for an alternative route to a qualification, Apex helps you prepare with confidence.
The pathway, made honest.
Here's the part most websites get wrong: a GED on its own does not grant entry to a South African degree. The Universities South Africa (USAf) Matriculation Board accepts it only when it's paired with a SAT score or a US university admission — so Apex helps you with both halves of the journey.

Exactly what the rules actually say.
We're an educational institution, so we quote the source rather than paraphrase it. Here is the recognition position, word for word.
GED + a SAT score (or a US university admission)
"General Education Diploma (GED) accompanied by [a] letter of admission from an appropriately accredited US university or alternatively the required SAT score."
From May 2015, an overall SAT score of 1130 is required. The Matriculation Board then evaluates the qualification and issues a Certificate of Exemption to applicants who qualify.

A matriculation exemption is required for first bachelor-degree study. It is not required for a Higher Certificate (NQF level 5) or a Diploma (NQF level 6) at a tertiary institution — so a GED can open doors at that level too.

The GED, explained for South African families.
The GED (General Educational Development) is a United States high-school-equivalency credential. You earn it by passing four subject tests — Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
For South African learners, the GED is a flexible alternative route to a recognised high-school-level qualification — popular with homeschoolers, students who have left mainstream school, and adults returning to study. Apex tutors you through each of the four subjects, one-on-one, at a pace that fits your life.

The questions GED students ask most.
What is the GED?
The GED (General Educational Development) is a United States high-school-equivalency credential, earned by passing four subject tests: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. It is recognised internationally as evidence of high-school-level academic ability. (Source: GED Testing Service.)
Is the GED accepted for South African university entry?
Conditionally. The USAf Matriculation Board accepts a GED for matriculation exemption only when it is accompanied by a letter of admission from an appropriately accredited US university, or a qualifying SAT score (an overall SAT score of 1130 is required from May 2015). USAf then issues a Certificate of Exemption to applicants who qualify. A GED on its own does not grant exemption. (Source: USAf Matriculation Board.)
Which GED subjects does Apex tutor?
Apex tutors all four GED subject tests — Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies — one-on-one. Apex also offers SAT support, which is the second half of the USAf university-entry pathway.
Do I need a matric exemption for every course?
No. A matriculation exemption is required for first bachelor-degree study at a South African university. It is not required for a Higher Certificate (NQF level 5) or a Diploma (NQF level 6) at a tertiary institution. (Source: Universities South Africa.)
