South African University Recognition

From Cambridge IGCSE to a SA matric exemption.

Cambridge IGCSE subjects are recognised by the Universities South Africa (USAf) Matriculation Board as Ordinary Level subjects. They form the foundation of the USAf Paragraph 15 Full Exemption pathway.

USAf Definition

What grade counts as an "Ordinary Level subject"?

"any subject offered for and passed with a symbol of A, B or C at the Ordinary Level, the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) level or the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) level"

So a Cambridge IGCSE subject needs a minimum of grade C (or the equivalent on the 9–1 scale) to count as an Ordinary Level subject.

The Cambridge Full Exemption rule

"passed in at least five different subjects on the Higher and/or HIGCSE and the Ordinary and/or IGCSE levels selected from Groups I and II and two of Groups III, IV and V."

And critically — the Two-Sitting Rule: "A candidate shall satisfy all the requirements... at not more than two examination sittings."
