About the Special Needs Tutor Role in Kempton Park

Apex Academic Centre is seeking a special needs tutor in Kempton Park for a Grade 11 IEB learner. This role requires an experienced, qualified tutor with a background in supporting neurodivergent learners (Autism Spectrum Disorder or similar profiles), as part of our special needs tutoring service. The learner is motivated with strong verbal ability, but benefits most from a structured, patient, and consistent teaching approach.

This role suits an educator who specialises in special-needs education and exam preparation, and who can build academic confidence while maintaining steady progress toward matric. In-person tutoring in Kempton Park is preferred, though online may be considered depending on tutor fit.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structured, step-by-step in-person lessons across English, Afrikaans, and Life Sciences.
• Break content into clearly defined, manageable steps, with repetition and visual reinforcement.
• Support task initiation, follow-through, and executive-functioning strategies.
• Provide consistent feedback, correction, and structured revision.
• Support exam preparation at a measured, scaffolded pace.
• Where possible, align with the learner’s Occupational Therapist to ensure a consistent support approach.

Requirements

• Qualified teacher (BEd or relevant qualification).
• Demonstrable experience working with neurodivergent learners (ASD or similar profiles).
• Patient, structured, and consistent in approach — does not rely on fast-paced teaching or independent self-study expectations.
• Strong senior-phase subject knowledge in English, Afrikaans, and Life Sciences.
• Ability to travel to Kempton Park, Gauteng.
• Excellent communication, reliability, and sensitivity to learner wellbeing.
